2:00 PM - 3:00 PM    Understanding Congress: Bills, Laws, Committees, Budget, Oh My! (Beginner)
Participants will learn the basics of the congressional process, which congressional committees have jurisdiction (and influence) over NARFE’s legislative priorities, how legislation moves through the process, and how that guides NARFE’s lobbying and grassroots advocacy.
 
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM    Influence. Action. Impact. Being a Successful NARFE Advocacy Leader (Advanced)
NARFE collaborates with federations and chapters to increase its effectiveness and visibility as a national advocate for federal employees and retirees. This session is for NARFE CDLs and SLs who help ensure the federal community speaks with one voice. Advocates will revisit the framework of NARFE’s CDL program and discuss challenges and solutions to their advocacy efforts.
 
3:30 PM - 4:30 PM    NARFE-PAC and its Role in Advancing NARFE’s Priorities (Beginner)
In this session, participants will learn about the purpose of NARFE-PAC and the vital role it plays as part of NARFE’s overall advocacy strategy.
 
3:30 PM - 4:30 PM    The Relationship-Building Toolkit: Keys to Influencing Lawmakers (Advanced)
Participants will learn how to use the “factors of influence” to build and sustain trusting relationships with lawmakers and their staff.  
 
5:00 PM - 6:30 PM    Day 1: Closing General Session

This year is a special year for NARFE, and in addition to the advocacy training you can take advantage of, we'd like to invite everyone to participate in our virtual Centennial Gala, to be held in conjunction with LEGcon21 the evening of June 21. It is a separate, ticketed item with an agenda to be announced, but what an agenda it will be. Come celebrate a century of public service with speakers from the administration and other good government groups, entertainment and a keepsake gift.

*Registration is an additional $50 and not included in the LEGcon21 registration rate.

In this session, participants will learn the dos and don'ts for conducting meetings with lawmakers and staff, and how to tailor their "asks" to make the subject matter relatable.
