Construction and renovation activities in healthcare settings require planning and comprehensive strategies to safeguard occupants. Originally integrated into CDC's Guidelines for Environmental Infection Control in Health-care Facilities, Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) procedures have evolved alongside technological advancements and enhanced work practices to minimize the risk of infections stemming from construction and maintenance work. In October 2021, the American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE) introduced the update ICRA 2.0, intended to enhance and clarify the current ICRA process, which is focused on project activity types and patient risk group in order to determine the level of precautions needed. Notably, ICRA 2.0 expands its reach into all types of healthcare facilities, including LTC, and introduces a new fifth class of precaution, Class V, specifically tailored for extensive projects. This presentation will provide an overview of ICRA 2.0 and innovative industry solutions designed to streamline compliance and facility integration.
