Teaching for Deeper Learning: Tools to Engage Students in Meaning Making
Join the best selling ASCD authors, Jay McTighe and Harvey Silver, as they discuss ideas from their book, Teaching for Deeper Learning: Tools to Engage Students in Meaning Making. Deep learning occurs when learners are actively engaged in making meaning of content. When students have learned something deeply, they retain information, achieve conceptual understanding, and can transfer their learning to new situations. However, deep learning doesn’t occur on its own as a result of didactic teaching; rather, it requires the active mental manipulation of content by using higher-order thinking skills. In this session, the presenters will provide practical and proven techniques for engaging students in thoughtful meaning making for deep learning.
